Colonel Miller enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1995 and graduated from the University of Texas in 2004. He has completed multiple Fleet Marine Force tours and deployed several times, including support for Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Inherent Resolve, the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, and Task Force 61/2.
From 2005 to 2008, he served as a rifle platoon commander and executive officer with 3d Battalion, 5th Marines. He later commanded a rifle company with 3d Battalion, 4th Marines from 2012 to 2013, and subsequently served as the Operations Officer for 2d Battalion, 7th Marines from 2013 to 2015. More recently, Colonel Miller completed a Fleet Marine Force tour as a MAGTF Planner for the 2d Marine Division from 2020 to 2022, and served as the Battalion Commander for the 2d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion from 2022 to 2024. Most recently, Colonel Miller served as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations (G-3) at 3d Marine Division.
His supporting establishment assignments include service at The Basic School as a staff platoon commander and Infantry Officers Course instructor. He also served as the Commanding Officer of Recruiting Station Richmond, Virginia.
Colonel Miller completed resident Marine Corps professional military education courses at both the Captain and Major levels. He is a 2020 graduate of the School of Advanced Warfighting and completed his payback tour as a Plans Officer for the 2d Marine Division and Combined Task Force 61.2, focusing on Force Design initiatives and the stand-up of CTF 61.2. Additionally, Colonel Miller is a graduate of the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.
