Mission

As the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP) proponent and functional expert, the Martial Arts & Fitness Center of Excellence (MAFCE) coordinates all aspects on the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and standards for effective management, operation and maintenance of the program.

Uniform Requirements
  • Green-on-green PT gear for weigh-in
  • Bring 2 sets of cammies for TD1
Prerequisites
  • Green Belt MAI - Must have active certification and credentials should be reflected in MCTIMS/MOL
  • 1st Class PFT/CFT (235) - PFT & CFT will be verified in week 1
  • Full duty status - verified with MAFCE medical screening checklist
  • Shoulder injury free in the past two years
  • No concussion/TBI within the past 6 months
  • No NJP's in the last year
  • Not pending legal action

Must bring on TD1:
  • DTS orders (if traveling) and/or local TAD Orders
  • Current BTR showing MCMAP belts
  • Student information sheet with command info
  • Copy of submitted TD FitRep

Submission Deadline: Submit request package via email NLT 60 days prior to your convene date.

Required Documents for Package

  • Drill Diagrams
  • Letter of Instruction (LOI): Signed by unit CO. Must contain course dates, supporting MAIT names, and command CO & SgtMaj full names and emails.
  • Risk Assessment Worksheets (RAW):
    • RAW for Tan-Green sustainment (JRAT permitted per unit SOP).
    • Individual RAW for each "Sustainment and Integration Practical Application" (e.g., 10 drills = 10 RAWs).
    • Individual RAW for each type of free sparring (Pugil Sticks, Body Sparring, Ground Fighting, Standing Striking, and Weapons Free Sparring).
Standardization Notice: The MAFCE disseminates standard MAI Course schedules, drill diagrams, and scenario-based training events. Any deviation is NOT authorized unless the Lead Instructor has contacted the MAFCE for approval.

Amplifying Instructions

TD1 Requirement

Submit the final roster on TD1 using the provided template.

Post-Graduation

Submit graduation roster and course completion record NLT 5 business days after graduation.

Recertification Requirements

MAI Recertification

Evaluations Required: EDIP, Tie-in, Warrior Study, Platform Instruction, and Current Belt Performance Exam.

Instructional Requirement: NAVMC 11432 demonstrating a minimum of 40 hours of instruction.

Process:
  1. Practical Evaluations: A local MAIT evaluates the MAI on the requirements above, plus their ability to supervise/participate in free sparring and conduct/participate in a martial arts drill.
  2. Written Exam: The evaluating MAIT requests the current written exam from the MAFCE and returns the completed test to the MAFCE for grading.
  3. Command Endorsement: Once evaluations are passed and the MAFCE grades the exam, the MAIT routes the Recertification Letter (template provided) to the MAI's Commanding Officer for their endorsement (template provided).
  4. Submission: The completed package is submitted to the local IPAC via EPAR.
MAIT Recertification

Evaluations Required: EDIP, Tie-in, Warrior Study, Platform Instruction, Current Belt Performance Exam (NAVMC 11743), and a Martial Arts Drill Letter of Instruction (LOI).

Instructional Requirement: NAVMC 11432 demonstrating you have facilitated at least one MAI course every two years.

Process:
  1. Written Exam: The evaluating MAIT contacts the MAFCE for the current written exam, administers it, and returns it to the MAFCE for grading.
  2. Command Endorsement: Once the MAFCE confirms a passing exam score and all practical evaluations are complete, the evaluating MAIT routes the Recertification Letter to the recertifying MAIT's Commanding Officer for signature.
  3. Submission: The fully endorsed package is submitted to the MAFCE. The MAFCE will then submit the recertification directly to IPAC.

Advancement Requirements

MAIs seeking Black Belt degrees or higher must complete the required sustainment and submit the following package.

  • Sufficient time at current belt level.
  • Advancement Essay: Topics must include Battle Study, Unit Training Plan, and Martial Culture Study.
  • NAVMC 11432 (Course Record): Must show you have instructed at least 2 MAICs, and acted as Lead Instructor for at least 1.
  • Volunteer hours documentation in current belt.
  • Advancement Belt Test.
  • Endorsement Letter signed by Commanding Officer.
